On January 7, 2006 when we held our first rehearsal for PHAME's production of "Camelot", we knew immediately that we were going to have an incredible show. Five months later, everything we knew from the beginning had become a reality. "Camelot" was absolutely magical. Our special performers have never looked or performed better than they did this year. The sets, the costumes, the props and technical effects went far beyond our expecations.

Last year when we put on "Titanic, the Musical", we improved the quality of our productions several times over. We experimented with a new and structured method of getting our students on stage on time. We had our set designs early on in rehearsals which allowed us to use items like chairs and mats to represent scenery so tht our students could get used to their surroundings. We welcomed a new costume designer to our organization, Amy Snyder, who brought energetic youth and amazing creativity to our costuming team. Finally, renting Portland Community College has exposed us to technical capabilities we had never seen before.

Watch for details about our next musical, "LES MISERABLES"- JUNE 2ND AND 3RD, 2007.

  Thank You!

Thanks to recent donors

As you may realize, our tuition receipts are not large enough to fully sustain our programs. So far this year we have received $5,305 in individual donations to PHAME. Thanks to all the individuals, corporations and foundations who have been so generous with us. You are much appreciated and your money is being spent wisely and well.

We recently received a cash donation of $2,500 from Consumer Cellular, a communications company in which Jason Marick’s brother has an interest. Thank you, Consumer Cellular.

PHAME received a grant from the James F. and Marian L. Miller Foundation for $5,000, the first installment of a three-year $15,000 commitment they have made to our annual spring musical production. Also grants have come in from U.S. Bank for $3,000 and from the Harry Merlo Foundation for $2,000. Our heartfelt thanks to these generous, community minded organizations.

Also we received a lovely donation of fresh make up supplies from Lynne Worcester and her colleagues at Mary Kaye Cosmetics.

All to make our actors sparkle and keep them healthy! Thanks, ladies.

Are YOU ready to make a much-needed donation? (Tax deductible, since we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation-tax ID #93 0991167.) Please send your check to: PHAME Academy of Fine Arts, 1640 NW 19th Ave., Portland, OR 97209. Thank you.

And please remember PHAME when you are writing or updating your will.

Student spotlight: Barbie Kragrud

Barbie has taken on a big job.  She is hand knitting lovely purple scarves for each PHAME student, especially to wear at the Zoo performance in chilly December.  They will be warm and beautiful, just like all our smiles when we see Barbie.
