PHAME Academy - the Portland region’s acclaimed fine and performing arts academy for adults with developmental disabilities – announced today the November 15th debut of “Get PHAME-ous!,” a new series of “First Thursday” style PHAME community arts open houses, showcasing and celebrating the inspiring talent of PHAME Academy’s student artists and performers.

The series, called “Get PHAME-ous!,” will run on three Thursday evenings between November 2012 and June 2013 at PHAME’s headquarters, Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, 1535 NE 17th Avenue in Northeast Portland. Featuring open classes, live performance, art shows, art-making opportunities, talk-backs and snacks, “Get PHAME-ous!” will showcase the full range of fine and performing arts that PHAME’s adult artists and performers with developmental disabilities study and practice at PHAME Academy. All three of the “Get PHAME-ous!” events are free and open to the public.

“At PHAME, we believe everyone has the right to be an artist. And this exciting new ‘Get PHAME-ous!’ community arts open house series is all about creativity, and community, and making connections,” says PHAME Executive Director Stephen Marc Beaudoin. “For a few hours during ‘Get PHAME-ous!’ you will get to step inside PHAME’s doors and connect with our classes and teachers, our inspiration and work, and especially our students – the heart of what we do. Whether you’re new to PHAME or coming back for your 5th or 25th year of seeing us in action, we invite you to come join us November 15th, March 14th and June 6th at ‘Get PHAME-ous!’ and be inspired and delighted by the talent, heart and hard work of our remarkable student artists and performers!”

“Get PHAME-ous” is scheduled to run 7 pm to 9 pm on the last Thursday of each of PHAME’s term of classes: Thursday, November 15, 2012; Thursday, March 14, 2013 and Thursday, June 6, 2013. The event takes place in multiple spaces at PHAME Academy’s headquarters at Grace Memorial Episcopal Church, 1535 NE 17th Avenue near the Lloyd Center. All events in the “Get PHAME-ous!” series are free and open to the public.
