THEATRE ARTS
Jessica Dart
In Theatre Arts, students learn a variety of basic acting concepts to help create and develop characters, interact with other actors in a scene, and ultimately to prepare for a stage performance in front of a live audience. In addition, students apply these concepts through a series of workshops that include audition preparation, musical theatre, improvisation, scene construction, and play production. Furthermore, the skills students learn in the Theatre Arts class are also applied to their participation in PHAME’s annual musical theatre production. |
TECHNICAL THEATRE
Technical Theatre gives students a rare look into the work done behind the scenes of theatrical productions. Class topics include: instruction and hands on experience with lighting and sound equipment, stage craft, scenic de- sign, theatrical curtains, rigging, terminology, and stage management. In additions, students will master basic scientific and engineering concepts behind each of the topics covered in class.

ART
PHAME’s Art classes are a force to be reckoned with. Students learn a variety of artistic techniques and use several kinds of medias including paint, clay, Chinese brush, and mosaics. Many student pieces have been made into greeting cards sold throughout the Portland area as well as auctioned in PHAME’s Annual Gala. PHAME art pieces have also been featured in local galleries and coffee shops.

MUSIC THEORY
The Music Theory class is designed to teach students the fundamentals of reading and writing music as well as sight-singing. Students will become familiar with reading rhythms, drawing notes appropriately on the staff, hear- ing and singing different intervals, and recognizing the difference between a scale, an arpeggio, and major and minor keys. Emphasis will be placed on treble clef, common time, and the C Major scale. For their final pro- ject, students will write their own short melody using concepts they have learned and sing their melodies at the Spring Recital. |
